A lone fir tree. Look around. They remain. They were here before we arrived. They will be here long after we’re gone. They’re rooting down in our back yards. Lining our city streets. Creating shade in our parks. Reminding us of what one was. Of how this land was once blanketed in deep, fragrant coastal forests. Targeted by loggers. Fragmented by settlements. The ones that remain are known as the tall trees.
